Working in the Pune area

25 years of hand scraping in Pune.

Ankita Enterprises hand scrapes guideways, slideways, mating faces, surface plates and machine bases for machine tool builders, rebuilders and plants across the Pune area. Flat, true surfaces that hold their accuracy.

Accuracy obtained

Measured in contact points and microns

Scraped surfaces are judged by how evenly they touch the master and how true the geometry is. These are the levels well-scraped machine surfaces reach, and the levels we work to.

8 to 10

contact points per square inch

Typical for slideways and mating faces. Enough contact to stop rocking and keep tightening balanced.

24 to 36

points per square inch, fine work

Fine scraping for reference surfaces and jobs that need the densest, most even contact.

Over 50%

bearing contact area

Between mating surfaces, giving stiffer joints and steadier machining.

Few microns

squareness and alignment

Surfaces are scraped to qualified masters and gauges, so straightness and squareness errors come down to a few microns.

Feel the difference in density

Work we do

Our scraping work

Machine tools, presses, robot pedestals and reference surfaces, for new builds and rebuilds. If two surfaces must mate truly, we can scrape them.

Guideways and slideways

Box ways, flat ways and dovetails scraped so axes move smoothly and hold alignment.

Machine rebuilds

Geometry restoration on worn machines, to bring accuracy back where it belongs.

Press scraping

Scraping of press beds, rams, slides and gibs, so the ram runs true to the bed and tooling seats evenly.

Robotics pedestal scraping

Scraping of robot pedestal and base mounting faces, so the robot seats flat and holds its position and alignment.

Surface plates and masters

Plates, straightedges and reference surfaces.

Saddles, tables, columns, beds

Mating faces that carry load evenly.

Oil-retention patterns

Frosting that holds a film of oil on sliding faces.

Why scraping

See what scraping changes

Drag the handle. On the left, a machined surface touches only at scattered high spots. On the right, a scraped surface carries an even spread of contact. The picture is illustrative.

After machining After scraping

Each blue mark is a point where the surface touched the master plate.

Flatness over long surfaces

Lapping and grinding act on the whole surface. Scraping corrects local high and low spots, so long surfaces can be brought true.

Stiffer joints

More bearing contact between mating surfaces raises joint rigidity, which helps finish and part geometry.

Better alignment

Scraping to a master reduces the electronic compensation a machine needs later.

Free, even sliding

Shallow scraped depressions hold oil so surfaces glide without sticking and wear more slowly.

25years of hand scraping
in the Pune area

Skill that comes from doing it for decades

Hand scraping is a craft learned over years, not a setting on a machine. Ankita Enterprises has been scraping machine surfaces around Pune for 25 years, for machine builders, rebuilders and plants that need accuracy they can measure.

FAQ

Questions we often hear

What is hand scraping?

Hand scraping is a manual method that removes very small amounts of metal from a precision surface to take out the high spots left by machining. It gives a flat, accurate bearing surface with more contact area between mating parts.

Why not just grind the surface flat?

Grinding and lapping act on the whole surface, so they struggle to correct local errors over long distances. Scraping works only on the high spots, and the scraped pattern also holds oil for sliding surfaces.

What accuracy can you achieve?

Typical well-scraped surfaces carry 8 to 10 contact points per square inch, and fine work can reach 24 to 36. Squareness and alignment errors can be brought down to a few microns. Tell us what your drawing needs and we will confirm what is achievable.

Can you scrape a machine where it stands?

Scraping tools are small and portable, which is one advantage of the work. Whether on-site work is possible depends on the machine and access, so send us details and we will advise.

What should I send for an enquiry?

The machine make and model, the surfaces concerned, the condition (new build or worn), the accuracy you need, and when you need the work done. Photos help.
